Sintiendo alivio
En los últimos meses, me tomé un descanso autoimpuesto de escribir blogs. Fue un buen descanso, ya que me concentré en terminar un libro que quería escribir desde hacía mucho tiempo. Había escrito un libro en 2013, La Fe del Migrante. Poco después de escribirlo, comencé a considerar una secuela. Ese libro comenzó con una reflexión sobre mi amigo y mentor que nos hizo pasar momentos difíciles a mí y a otros Redentoristas cuando ingresamos al ministerio hispano. P. Enrique López solía decir: “Si no caminas con mi gente, no te molestes en aprender español”.
Si bien tuvo una manera directa de desafiarnos, sus palabras están presentes en el proceso del Encuentro en la base del Plan Pastoral Nacional para el Ministerio Hispano/Latino. Junto con Liguori Publications, mi libro Camina con mi Pueblo, una vida en el ministerio de migración, está casi listo para su publicación. Es un alivio decir que la redacción está terminada y las traducciones están completas. Si bien falta terminar el diseño y algunos detalles, estoy contento con el progreso.
Hay muchas personas que me han asesorado en sus vidas. A veces, es posible que ni siquiera supieran lo importante que significaban sus consejos para mí. Tengo algunos de ellos en el libro, pero cuando lo termino, me doy cuenta de cuánto valoré algunas de las pequeñas cosas de mi vida en ese momento, que me influyeron mucho.
La apreciación de la sabiduría que se me mostró comenzó en el hogar. Esta es la época del año en que mis padres se casaron, hace 78 años. Fueron los primeros y más importantes de mis mentores. Los recuerdo ahora en su aniversario. Espero que todos los lectores reconozcan la sabiduría que han recibido a lo largo de los años.

Feeling relief
The past few months, I took a self-imposed sabbatical away from writing blogs. It was a good break, as I focused on finishing a book that I have wanted to write for a long time. I had written a book in 2013, Migrant Faith. Not long after writing it, I began considering a sequel. That book began with a reflection on my friend and mentor who gave me and other Redemptorists a hard time as we entered Hispanic ministry. Fr. Enrique Lopez often said, “If you don’t walk with my people, don’t bother to learn Spanish.”
While he had a direct way of challenging us, his words are present in the Encuentro process at the foundation of National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry. Along with Liguori Publications, my book, Walk with My People, A Life in Migration Ministry is nearly ready for publication. It is a relief to say that the writing is done, translations are complete. While layout and some details must be finished, I am happy with the progress.
There are many people who have mentored me in their lives. Sometimes, they may not even have known how important their advice meant to me. I have a few of them in the book, but as I finish the book, I realize how much I valued some of the little things in my life at the time, influenced me so much.
Appreciating wisdom shown to me began in the home. This is the time of year of my parents marriage, 78 years ago. They were the first and most important of my mentors. I remember them now on their anniversary. I hope that all readers recognize wisdom passed on them over the years.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
