Invitamos a todos que participaron en la vida de Casa San Alfonso, 1991 a 1996, a una misa en la Iglesia San José en Denver, el Primero de Agosto, a las 10:00 de la mañana. Padre Miguel McAndrew, C.Ss.R. va a celebrar la misa. Hay convivio después en el parque en frente de West High School. Que vengan jóvenes de la Casa San Alfonso, sus familias. Que vengan los padrinos de la Casa que eran esencial en la vida de la casa. Que vengan padres y familiares de los jóvenes de la Casa también.
Celebra la fiesta de San Alfonso con nosotros
Hace varios meses, cuando algunas de las restricciones de COVID sobre las reuniones se suavizaron, sugerí tener una reunión de treinta años para los participantes de la iniciativa juvenil redentorista de Casa San Alfonso. Cuando comenzamos a planificar la Misa en la Iglesia de San José en Denver, elegimos el 1 de agosto, la Fiesta de San Alfonso de Ligorio. Desde el 1 de julio, he dedicado todos los blogs diarios a contar la historia de Casa San Alfonso. Es una historia de dejar que los jóvenes revelen su dignidad, respeto y alegría. Caminamos con los jóvenes mientras ellos caminaban con nosotros.
Esta iniciativa era diferente a cualquier otro programa o ministerio religioso que haya experimentado antes. En lugar de liderar la iniciativa, los religiosos tuvimos que dejar de lado nuestras ideas preconcebidas sobre el ministerio. Cuando la gente nos preguntó qué hacíamos en Casa San Alfonso, nuestra respuesta fue que los jóvenes nos mostrarán el camino una vez que lleguen a entender que realmente queremos caminar con ellos y que ellos caminen con nosotros.
Hoy, me sorprende que recibamos permiso para iniciar una misión tan abierta. Afortunadamente, nuestro Superior General sentó una base sólida sobre la necesidad de llegar a los jóvenes y dejar que los jóvenes lideren. El Papa Juan Pablo II inició las Jornadas Mundiales de la Juventud que se celebrarán cada dos años. Hubo una variedad de intentos para llegar a los jóvenes. Sin embargo, nos dimos cuenta de que la nuestra iniciativa era única cuando dejamos que los pobres, los marginados, los inmigrantes y los indocumentados lideraran.
Announcement: Thirtieth Anniversary Celebration of Casa San Alfonso
We invite all who participated in the life of Casa San Alfonso, 1991 to 1996, to a mass at St. Joeseph’s Church in Denver, on August 1st, at 10:00 am. Father Mike McAndrew, C.Ss.R. will celebrate the mass. There is a potluck picnic afterwards in the park in front of West High School. Come, all who were part of our Casa San Alfonso Community. Come, Jóvenes and their families. Come padrinos and amigos de la Casa. And come, parents and relatives of the Casa San Alfonso community.
Celebrate the feast of St. Alphonsus with us
Several months ago, as some of the COVID restrictions on gatherings lightened, I suggested having a thirty-year reunion for participants in the Redemptorist youth initiative of Casa San Alfonso. As we began planning the Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Denver, we chose August 1, the Feast of St. Alphonsus Liguori. Since July 1, I have dedicated all of our daily blogs to telling the story of Casa San Alfonso. It is a story of letting young people reveal their dignity, respect and joy. We walked with the young people as they walked with us.
This initiative was unlike any other religious program or ministry that I ever experienced before. Instead of leading the initiative, we religious had to let go of our preconceptions about ministry. When people asked us what we did at Casa San Alfonso, our answer was that young people with show us the way once they come to understand that we genuinely want to walk with them and have them walk with us.
Today, I am amazed that we received permission to initiate such an open-ended mission. Fortunately, our Superior General laid a solid foundation on the need to reach out to young people and to let the young people lead. Pope John Paul II initiated the World Youth Days to be celebrated every two years. There were a variety of attempts to reach youth taking place. Yet, we realized that our initiative was unique as we let the poor, the marginalized, the immigrant and the undocumented to lead.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
