Ayer, propuse estudiar la Guía de discusión de la Enseñanza Papal preparada por las oficinas de Servicios para Migrantes y Refugiados (MRS) y Justicia para Inmigrantes (JFI) de la USCCB, pero como el Adviento ha iniciado, deseo que este recurso sea mi estudio privado para el Adviento. Compartiré con ustedes durante las próximas dos semanas una reflexión cada día sobre los mensajes que el programa destaca para cada una de las cuatro sesiones propuestas para el estudio. Dado que la guía recomienda un mensaje de cada uno de los Papas Juan Pablo II, Benedicto XVI y Francisco, estas reflexiones tomarán doce días. Al momento de escribir esto, he preparado los primeros seis blogs.
Antes de estudiar la Enseñanza Papal sobre Migración, felicito a mis amigos de MRS y JFI por presentar los mensajes en una serie de cuatro temas: Familia, Acompañamiento, Evangelización y Solidaridad. Al comenzar el estudio, el orden es un poco diferente de las reflexiones ordinarias sobre el Ministerio de Migración. El acompañamiento es a menudo el último de los cuatro pasos en el ministerio hispano y migrante. Como se sale un poco de lo normal, me hace detenerme un momento y considerar la misión de la Iglesia con los migrantes bajo una nueva luz.
Al preparar los primeros seis blogs, observo que estoy un poco más entusiasmado con algunos de los mensajes que con otros, pero cualquier estudioso de la migración tendrá una preferencia por algunos mensajes y menos por otros. A veces, los mensajes que no me llamaron la atención de inmediato se volvieron más importantes al meditar sobre su importancia. Espero que los lectores comprendan mejor la enseñanza y la misión de la Iglesia con los migrantes.
En este estudio, es importante dejar de lado las ideas preconcebidas sobre los migrantes y dejar que los tres Papas nos inspiren a reconocer la obra de Dios en personas a menudo difamadas, que ofrecen una perspectiva de la búsqueda humana de Dios, significado, seguridad y un lugar al que llamar hogar. Los primeros tres mensajes tratan sobre la familia y la migración.

My Advent 2024
Yesterday, I proposed studying the Papal Teaching discussion Guide as prepared by the USCCB offices of Migrants and Refugees Services (MRS) and Justice for Immigrants (JFI), but as Advent is upon us, I wish to make this resource my private study for Advent. I will share with you over the next two weeks a reflection each day on the messages that the program highlights for each of the four sessions proposed for the study. Since the guide recommends one message each of Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis, it will take twelve days for these reflections. At the time of this writing, I have prepared the first six blogs.
Before studying the Papal Teaching on Migration, I commend my friends at MRS and JFI for presenting the messages in a series of four themes: Family, Accompaniment, Evangelization and Solidarity. As the study begins, the order is a bit different from ordinary reflections on Migration Ministry. Accompaniment is often the last of four steps in Hispanic and Migrant ministry. Because it is somewhat out of normal order, it causes me to pause a moment and consider the mission of the Church with migrants in a new light.
As I prepared the first six blogs, I note that I am a bit more enthusiastic about some of the messages than others, but any student of migration will have a partiality to some messages and less towards others. At times the messages that did not immediately strike me became more important as I meditated on their importance. I hope that readers gain insight into the Church’s teaching and mission with migrants.
In this study, it is important to set aside preconceived ideas about migrants, and let the three Popes inspire us to recognize God’s handiwork in people often maligned, who offer insight into the human search for God, meaning, security and a place to call home. The first three messages are about the family and migration.
