Ver el bien en otras religiones
Ayer escribí que cuando reconocemos el bien en otra persona, los alienta a ser aún mejores. En mi experiencia de trabajo juvenil en Denver, cuando un joven reconocía su propio valor, respondía cuidando a los demás como sus iguales y nuestro alcance juvenil creció. De manera similar, cuando trabajamos junto con personas de otras denominaciones cristianas y personas de otras religiones, somos mejores por ello. Cuando los Apóstoles encontraron a alguien predicando en el nombre de Jesús que no era parte de su comunidad, Jesús dijo: “El que no está contra nosotros, está con nosotros”.
Cuando honramos el bien del otro, ambos podemos ser mejores. Es mucho mejor si encontramos nuestro terreno común que comparar nuestras diferencias. Tal vez encuentre argumentos sobre creencias y comportamientos proselitistas, sin importar las fuentes, desalentadores. Cuando trabajamos juntos en las necesidades sociales comunes de las comunidades, nuestras iglesias pueden crear formas de ayudar a los pobres y marginados. Mientras encontramos lazos comunes ecuménicos en la salud, la educación, el trabajo y la vida de nuestras comunidades, crezcamos en el respeto por la fe de los demás.
Cuando tengo relaciones con otras tradiciones de fe con respeto mutuo, estoy más alegre en la fe. El argumento apologético siempre nos divide. Después de la última cena, Jesús nos dio un nuevo mandamiento, “ámense unos a los otros como yo los he amado.” En mutuo respeto, podemos encontrar la paz de Cristo.

Seeing good in other faiths
Yesterday, I wrote that when we recognize good in another person, it encourages them to be even better. In my youth work experience in Denver, when a young person recognized their own worth, they responded by caring for others as their equals and our youth outreach grew. In a similar way, when we work together with people of other Christian denominations and people of other faiths, we are better for it. When the Apostles found someone preaching in Jesus name who was not part of their community, Jesus said, “Whoever is not against us is for us.”
When we honor the good of the other, we can both be better. It is much better if we find our common ground than to compare our differences. You may find arguments about proselytizing beliefs and behaviors, regardless of the sources, discouraging. When we work together on the common social needs of communities, our churches can create ways to help the poor and marginalized. As we find common ecumenical ties in the health, education, work and life of our communities, let us grow in respect for the faith of others.
When I have relationships of mutual respect with other faith traditions, I am happier in faith. The apologetic argument always divides us. After the last supper, Jesus gave us a new commandment, “love one another as I have loved you.” In mutual respect, we can find the peace of Christ.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
