La Alegría del Ministerio Campesino
Mi primera semana en el trabajo con CMFN ha sido más una experiencia de montaña rusa de lo que esperaba. Debería saberlo mejor después de mis años de experiencia. He sido bendecido con más de treinta años de trabajar con migrantes e inmigrantes. Sé que tengo mucho que ofrecer en este ministerio, pero tengo mucho que aprender. Volver a decir misa en un campamento de campesinos fue como volver a subirse a una bicicleta. Se sintió bien.
Celebrar misas en memoria de una mujer que se entregó para dar la bienvenida a los migrantes a la comunidad de fe de la costa este de Virginia fue una forma de celebrar el buen trabajo del ministerio campesino. Hay buena gente interesada en servir en el campo como voluntarios, catequistas y misioneros. CMFN sirve, tanto a los campesinos como a los que representan a la Iglesia en dar esperanza a los campesinos.
Cuanto mas queremos hacer
Reconocer y alentar lo bueno que está ocurriendo en una comunidad es solo el comienzo de la introducción de CMFN en una parroquia o diócesis. Nuestra visita necesita abrir a todos aquellos con los que nos encontremos para reconocer que “hemos venido tan lejos, tan lejos tenemos que ir”. Hay muchas buenas prácticas que necesitan estímulo y apoyo. Es necesario compartir lo que la gente puede aprender de otros para mejorar su ministerio. Y hay necesidades que satisfacer que exigen nuevos métodos y expresión.
Es más fácil apoyar lo bueno que está ocurriendo, que considerar nuestras incapacidades en el ministerio. La autocrítica y el entendimiento de los demás son necesarios para mejorar nuestro ministerio con los campesinos. Somos capaces de hacerlo mejor. Podemos dar la bienvenida a más personas para ayudar en el ministerio. Que estemos abiertos a aprender cómo podemos servir mejor.

The Joy of Campesino Ministry
My first week on the job with CMFN has been more of the roller coaster experience than I expected. I should know better after my years of experience. I have been blessed with over thirty years of working with migrants and immigrants. I know that I have much to offer in this ministry, but I have much to learn. Saying Mass again in a migrant camp was like getting back on a bicycle. It felt good.
Celebrating memorial masses for a woman who gave of herself to welcoming migrants to the faith community of the Eastern Shore of Virginia was a way to celebrate the good work of migrant missionaries. There are many good people interested in serving as campesino volunteers, catechists and missionaries. CMFN serves both the campesinos and those who represent the Church in giving hope to campesinos.
How much more we want to do
Recognizing and encouraging the good that is taking place in a community is only a beginning of introducing CMFN to a parish or diocese. Our visit needs to open all whom we meet to recognize that “we have come so far, but we have so far to go.” There are many good practices that need encouragement and support. There is need to share what people may learn from others to improve their ministry. And there are needs to be met that call for new methods and expression.
It is much easier to support the good that is taking place, than to consider our liabilities in ministry. Self-criticism and the critique of others is needed for improving our ministry with campesinos. We are capable of doing better and welcoming more people to helping in this ministry. May we be open to learning how we may better serve.

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
