¿Estamos flojos por la pandemia?
(Observaciones sobre la pandemia)
Después de dos años de la pandemia COVID, me preocupa de que por el deseo de recuperar la vida normal antes de la pandemia, estamos perdiendo una oportunidad de renovar la vitalidad de la Iglesia. La vida antes de la pandemia no era perfecta. Había problemas, escándalos, y divisiones dentro de la Iglesia. Necesitamos oír la crítica de los que están saliendo la Iglesia. Llamamos ellos, los ‘NONES’, los que niegan la iglesia cerrada con tantas reglas y deberes. También tenemos que escuchar a los que niegan los principios del Concilio Vaticano y un ministerio enfocado en la periferia. Si no respondemos a los desafíos de la periferia, estamos flojos en la fe.
Aceptamos que hay menos asistiendo las misas ahora, pero no estamos respondiendo con compasión y misericordia. Tenemos que vivir en la realidad de este tiempo. El pastor que no revisa sus ideas de los deberes del pasado es flojo. La gente necesita sacerdotes caminando en la realidad de hoy. Si ponemos atención en los deberes, como obligar la gente a la misa dominical sin observar que muchos faltan la oportunidad de asistir por muchas razones (no son excusas), y no somos honestos que por falta de vocaciones sacerdotales hay menos oportunidades de asistir la misa cada domingo, no estamos respondiendo a la realidad de hoy.
Si los deberes causan duda del amor de Dios, somos flojos. Deberes de asistir la misa, de confesarse cuando no hay suficientes confesores para oír las confesiones, escandalizan muchos, especialmente los marginados de la Iglesia. ¿Estamos escuchando los gritos de los pobres? Estoy triste con mucho que observo.

(Considering the COVID pandemic)
After two years of the COVID pandemic, I am concerned that in our desire to return to normal life as it was before the pandemic, we are missing an opportunity to renew the vitality of the Church. Life before the pandemic was not perfect. There were problems, scandals, and divisions within the Church. We need to listen to the criticisms of those leaving our faith. We call them, the ‘NONES’, those offended by a Church of rules and obligations, who are not moved by the life and liturgy of the Church today. We also have to listen to those who deny the principles of the Vatican Council and a ministry generous to people on the periphery. If we do not respond to the challenges of the Church today, we are weak in our faith.
We accept that there are fewer attending Masses now, but we are not responding with compassion and mercy. We need to live in the reality of this moment. The pastor who does not revise his presentation of duties and obligations is lazy. The faithful need priests who understand the realities of today. If we try to force people to attend Mass under the pain of sin, we lack attention to real challenges that people have to fulfill such obligations. In many areas Mass is not available for many reasons. These are not excuses. If we are not honest that due to the lack of priestly vocations there are fewer opportunities to attend Mass every Sunday, we are not responding to today’s reality.
If rules and obligations cause people to doubt God’s love, we are lazy. The precept of Sunday obligation, or the obligation of going to confession when there are not enough confessors to hear confessions, scandalize many, especially those on the fringes of the Church. Are we listening to the cries of the poor?

O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
