¿Pregunte por qué no?
Recibí un cumplido sobre los blogs diarios del Padre Migrante. Un amigo le gustó la perspectiva positiva de los blogs. “Son positivos y me dan esperanza para el día”. Cuando elogió los blogs, me sentí avergonzado. No siempre soy positivo y me preocupa que mis blogs no sean lo suficientemente esperanzadores. Camino con tantas personas que tienen poco control de los desafíos que enfrentan debido a la pobreza, la falta de oportunidad y la injusticia. Reconozco a personas en la periferia de la sociedad y de la Iglesia. Quiero que mi Congregación realice nuestra misión a: “Los más abandonados, a los que la Congregación es enviada de modo especial, son aquellos a quienes la Iglesia no ha podido proporcionar aún medios suficientes de salvación; los que nunca oyeron el mensaje de la Iglesia o no lo aceptan al menos como buena nueva, y finalmente aquellos a quienes perjudica la división de la Iglesia”. (C.SS.R. Const. 3)
Espero que la gente experimente estos blogs como esperanzadores e invitándonos a cuidar a los abandonados del mundo. Cuando era joven, encontré inspiradora la frase de George Bernard Shaw repetida a menudo por Bobby Kennedy. “Algunos ven las cosas como son y preguntan por qué, yo sueño cosas que nunca fueron y pregunto, ¿por qué no?”
No soy tan positivo como los blogs que he escrito en los últimos dos años, pero creo que podemos hacer una diferencia en este mundo. No hay persona que no pueda cambiar. No hay injusticia que no pueda ser superada. Las fuerzas destructivas que nos rodean no son todas poderosas. Algunas de esas fuerzas hieren, destruyen y pueden matar a quienes trabajan por la justicia y la paz. Hay mártires por la justicia, la esperanza y la fe. Hubo mártires del Antiguo Testamento, por supuesto el mismo Jesús, apóstoles y muchos mártires por la fe. Están los mártires modernos por la justicia de muchas religiones: Mahatma Ghandi, el Dr. Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, San Oscar Romero, el Beato Stanley Rother y muchos más.
Si bien muchas personas ven las cosas como son y dicen ¿por qué? Espero que un blog que crea que podemos hacerlo mejor pueda llevar a nosotros a esforzarse con confianza por lo que es mejor. ¿Por qué no?

Ask why not?
I received a compliment about the daily blogs of Padre Migrante. A friend liked the positive outlook of the blogs. “They are positive and give me hope for the day.” As he complimented the blogs, I felt embarrassed. I am not always positive, and I worry that my blogs may not be hopeful enough. I walk with so many people who have little control of the challenges that they encounter because of poverty, lack of opportunity and injustice. I recognize people on the periphery of society and the Church. I want my Congregation to realize our mission to: “The most abandoned, to whom in particular the Congregation is sent, are those for whom the Church has not yet been able to provide sufficient means of salvation, those who have never heard the Church’s message, or at least do not receive it as the “Good News”, and finally those who suffer harm because of division in the Church.” (C.SS.R. Const. 3)
I hope that people experience these blogs as hopeful and inviting us to care for the abandoned of the world. As a young man, I found the phrase from George Bernard Shaw often repeated by Bobby Kennedy inspiring. “Some men see things as they are and ask why, I dream things that never were and ask, why not?”
I am not as positive as the blogs that I have written over the past two years, but I do believe that we can make a difference in the world in which we live. There is no person who cannot change. There is no injustice than cannot be overcome. The destructive forces around us are not all powerful. Some of those forces hurt, destroy and may kill those who work for justice and peace. There are many martyrs for justice, hope and faith. There were martyrs of the Old Testament, of course Jesus himself, apostles and many martyrs for the faith. There are the modern martyrs for justice from many faiths: Mahatma Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, Saint Oscar Romero, Blessed Stanley Rother and so many more.
While many people see things as they are and say why? I hope that a blog that believes that we can do better may lead people to confidently strive for what is better. Why not?

Oh Jesús, tú nos llamas: “Síganme”. Bendice, Señor, a todos los que acogen tu llamado. Puede que el camino no sea fácil, pero tenemos la confianza de que todo es posible si caminamos contigo. Que este viaje nos abra los ojos a las maravillas de tu amor por nosotros. Oramos por toda tu gente, por todos los creyentes e incrédulos, por los líderes y seguidores. Oramos por la sanación, el perdón, la compasión, la justicia y la paz. Oramos para que, al seguirte, nosotros también podamos ser pescadores de hombres. Bendícenos en nuestro viaje.
O Jesus, you call us, “Come after me.” Bless, O Lord, all who welcome your call. The path may not be easy, but we have confidence that all things are possible if we walk with you. May this journey, open our eyes to the wonders of your love for us. We pray for all your people, for all believers and unbelievers, for leaders and followers. We pray for healing, for forgiveness, for compassion, for justice, for peace. We pray that as we follow you, we too can be fishers of men. Bless us on our journey.
